“I’m too busy to do something” page 13 of Beeches, Boreholes and Badgers

10th May 1996

Lake District National Park Authority vote to fell all the remaining 54 Rusland Beeches.  All the conservation bodies agree with the decision, including Cumbria Wildlife Trust, English Nature, Friends of the Lake District and so on.  To add insult to injury ‘”the recommendation was to replant with a native tree – small leaved lime.”   Beech has been in this area at least since the iron age and arrived in Britain before the Channel formed and we were still joined to Europe!

SOMEONE SHOULD DO SOMETHING!  I would but I am really busy working on designs for the ‘Lakeside Aquatarium’
